Kyle earned his Eagle Scout award by constructing a community garden at Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gates. The garden was designed in order to provide the members of the church, who live in urban areas, with a location they can use for growing various types of flowers and vegetables. The garden contains ten raised garden beds, fencing around the perimeter, and mulch for the areas in between the gardens. An irrigation system was also installed by putting gutters on a nearby shed, which filters rainwater into water barrels for the gardeners use.
Kyle earned a total of 31 Merit Badges from 2006-2012 as part of his requirement to become an Eagle Scout. A sample of some of the badges he earned were: Indian Lore, Citizenship in the Community, Nation and World, First Aid, Environmental Science and Personal Management. A minimum of 21 Merit Badges are required for any Eagle Scout. Additionally, Kyle has participated in many leadership positions within the troop and serves as a Section Chief within the Order of the Arrow, a subnational office within Scouting's National Honor Society. Kyle was joined by his parents Jeff and Lauren Piper at the ceremony.
